It gives a short overview of life in the Giurgeu Depression, and 2026 reviews praise the rock and mineral collection and the local history exhibition.
About the place
The Vertán House was built in the late 18th century for an Armenian merchant. From the 1820s it was the headquarters of the Gyergyó battalion of the 1st Szekler Infantry Regiment, and since the 1960s it has housed the town museum. Since 1992 the museum has carried the name of Márton Tarisznyás (1927–1980), its first director.
The collections include tools for felling and working timber, folk costumes from Szekler, Romanian and Csángó villages, finds from the excavations at Lázár Castle, paintings by János Karácsony and a collection of rocks and minerals. The website also announces temporary exhibitions, for example one on Bishop Mihály Fogarasy, who was born in the town.
