The boardwalk takes you between pines and dark pools, inside a crater filled with peat.
About the place
The bog covers about 80 hectares in the crater next to Lake Sfânta Ana, and the reserve as a whole about 240 hectares. The peat is 10 to 20 m deep. A few pools are all that is left of the old lake; the peat turns their water almost black. Scots pine, dwarf birch and the round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia), a carnivorous plant, grow here.
The reserve dates from 1975 and is part of the Natura 2000 site Tinovul Mohoș – Lacul Sfânta Ana. Since summer 2026 you can visit the bog without a guide, on the marked route; the boardwalk is protected by an electric fence on both sides. A guide can be booked on site for a fee, subject to availability.
Good to know
- The bog is closed in winter, from 1 November to 31 March; in summer entry is 9 am–7 pm, last entry 6:30 pm.
- The ticket from the Knowledge Centre also covers Lake Sfânta Ana, so you can see both on the same day.
- Stay on the boardwalk and do not reach over the electric fence; bears live in the area.
