It is the simplest way to see the lake from every side, and it suits children too.
About the place
The trail is about 3.5 km long with only 40 m of ascent, according to the park administration. It starts in the resort centre and climbs about 250 m through the forest to Balconul de Piatră (the Stone Balcony), a rock 15–20 m above the water. It then follows the shore to the end of the lake and continues on the forest road built by Márton Ferenc of Gheorgheni.
On the way you pass through the Stone Gate (Poarta de Piatră), a cut through the rock left by blasting when the road was built, and the trout farm. You return along the east shore, past the boat landing, and over the natural dam that blocked the valley.
Good to know
- Balconul de Piatră is only 250 m of climbing from the start, so it is worth it even if you skip the full loop.
- The path is earth and can be slippery after rain.
- On the east shore, at the boat landing, you can rent a boat in season.
