You stand on the mountain whose slope slid down to dam the lake, and in clear weather you can see Ceahlău.
About the place
Two marked trails climb here, each in about 2 hours, according to the park administration. The red triangle starts in the resort centre on the Bicăjel forest road, past the ski slope, and climbs steeply through the forest to the Ghilcoș meadow (4 km, 411 m of ascent). The blue dot starts at the car park behind the boat landing and follows the only path up to the rock (3.5 km, 395 m). Both can be walked all year.
From the rock you see the resort, the Licaș, Suhardul Mare and Suhardul Mic massifs and the crags around the Bicaz Gorge; in clear weather Ceahlău is visible too. Ghilcoș peak (1,408 m) is 1 km further east, but it is wooded and has no view.
Good to know
- You can go up one trail and down the other: they meet at the viewpoint.
- On the red triangle, the section leaving the forest road is very steep and stony.
- The blue-dot trail passes a spring about 20 minutes below the viewpoint, according to the park's description.
